Summary
The
argane region holds a population of three million people,
a species that exists only in Morocco and environment characterized
by its contrasts and beauty. These Moroccan natural resources
are not only threatened by the forces of nature, such as the
climate which becomes increasingly more arid or the desert
that continues to advance, but also human elements such as
agro-businessmen or the growing local population and their
livestock.
This
project's goal is to valorize a more traditional farming method
that is positive for the environment. The foundation wants
to raise awareness among the local population about the importance
of the argane tree, and other cultures that can grow in this
environment without pesticides or massive irrigation, to the
future of the region. If the project succeeds in creating
an income for the community participants, this will add a
certain value to the selected plant species, like the argane
tree, and will perhaps create an impetus to preserve and propagate
these types of plants. If the environment is protected and
distribution capabilities improved so that rural populations
can get a fair price for their efforts, the foundation believes
that the current rural exodus will slow down. If this rural
exodus continues, the effect could be disastrous for the entire
country when millions of people from this region search a
new life elsewhere.
